What? For my passion project, I decided to improve my art, and more specifically, human proportions and anatomy. I wanted to do this because I felt limited in my art, and I wasn’t sure what was right or wrong when I tried to draw people. So when we were given three weeks to work on something that inspired us, I chose drawing. Over the course of this time, I researched and drew every day, slowing improving my art and understanding the human body more and how to draw it. As the time went on, I became more confident in my drawings and stopped using online references. Instead, I drew from my head and started using real-life people to use as figures. By doing this, I could tell I was improving because I no longer had to look at someone else’s drawing to be able to draw what I was trying to. Every day I tried to fill 2-3 pages of my sketchbook so that I would have a sufficient amount of work to show, and also it helped my improvement a lot. Overall, I think that this project was a really good way to get me into drawing every day, and to show me physically, that the more you practice, the better you get, even over a short period of time. Next? The passion project was a great way to improve over a small amount of time, and to get me in the habit of drawing every day. As I continue through the end of the school year and into summer, I am going to keep tracking my drawing in my notebook. Although this probably won’t happen consistently, I will try to keep drawing many pages per day. I plan to keep drawing human proportions and details, but I also would like to move onto a fabric study, so I can put interesting clothes on the characters that I draw. I’m really glad that I chose my passion project to be what it is because it can continue for years, and all the while I will be creating and learning. Although there is no final product for this project, my progress throughout my sketchbook will show the improvement and effort that I put into the work. I am also planning on incorporating more color into my art, which will be a very fun ‘project’ that will go along with the general theme of improving my artwork. I am not sure what I want to do in the future with art that I have completed (not just sketches), but I will figure it out when I get there. Proud? Overall, for my passion project, I’m proudest of my work and consistency. In past projects, especially student-guided ones, I have had trouble staying motivated and using my time efficiently. For this project, I decided to bite off a smaller chunk, and it turned out to really help my work process. As the days went on, I still worked in my notebook every single day, and genuinely tried to use my time the best I could. I am very proud of myself for keeping on track and utilizing my work time. I also am proud of myself for improving my art and taking time to do something for myself and for pleasure. The main thing that I am proud of is the improvement shown in my sketchbook. It is obvious the difference between my first attempts at drawing figures versus my last ones, with improvement in cleanness, proportions, and quality. Although I am going to keep on drawing figures and learning more about the art world, I am still proud of the things I did learn, and the accomplishments that I did.
